Marriage Mediation #9

marriage wisdom

Wisdom from the World

The beginning of love is to let those we love be perfectly themselves, and not to twist them to fit our image. Otherwise we love only the reflection of ourselves we find in them.

– Thomas Merton

Wisdom from The Word

“I want you to get out there and walk-better yet run!- on the road God called you to travel. I don’t want any of you sitting around on your hands. I don’t want anyone strolling off, down some path that goes nowhere. And mark that you do this with humility and discipline- not in fits and starts, but steadily, pouring yourself out for each other in acts of love, alert at noticing differences and quick at mending fences.”

– Ephesians 4:1 b,2 (The Message)

Keep Me Real Lord!

“Lord, help me to value the strengths that my LifeMate brings to our relationship. Help me to be as gentle and gracious with my mate’s weaknesses as You are with mine. Help me to speak my truth in love when necessary. Keep me real in facing areas in which I need to experience growth. As marriage reveals my best and my worst, please help me to remember that regardless of whether I have succeeded or failed, I am loved deeply by You. Help me to bring my weaknesses to you. Transform me Lord!”
